AUGUST/SEPTEMBER REPORT
VBS
A total flop. We passed out 4,500 invitations and had a high of six unbelievers. Since the program was totally geared to reach unbelievers, it was somewhat disappointing, to say the least.
STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN,
IN KUPCHINO
We were finally able to have our first Sunday services in September. This was accomplished by meeting in Mishas apartment. I have been working with Misha to develop this new work since February. It was great and we averaged 14 for September.
Leaving the church in city center was emotionally draining. Leaving wasnt the hard part. Sasha is a fine pastor and will do a great job leading the church.
Facing the reality that were starting all over from scratch just wipes me out. New place, training new leadership, no property. Well, theyve passed a law saying its possible to buy land in Russia now. Maybe well be able to figure out how thats done.
Shortly after we had our first Sunday services, the landlord of Mishas apartment said the contract is up in October and she needs him to vacate the apartment. Hindrances seem to abound, but that is nothing new. If need be, well go back to meeting in the library which is about as warm as an icebox.
SEMINARY?
We have five men that would like to start seminary training. Theyre not all called to preach, but rather have an interest in improving there service to God. Joe Morell, Missionary to Lithuania, already has some sound material translated into the Russian language. We should be off to a good start when we receive it.
MISSIONARY RETREAT
We attended the European Missionary Retreat September 10-14 in Kaunas, Lithuania. Missionaries from Russia, Lithuania, and Romania were ministered to by Lynn and Brenda Raburn and Larry and Thel Fincher. We are grateful for the strength and encouragement they provided.
TERRORIST ATTACKS
The terrorist attacks in America took place while we were in Lithuania. John Sanders, Romanian missionary, came into our motel room and said the World Trade Center and Pentagon had been bombed. I thought he was joking. Even when it was shown on television, I couldnt believe it. I was in denial and found it all very hard to believe.
RUSSIAN CONDOLENCES
The day after the attacks I saw a Russian friend who lives in Lithuania. He immediately expressed his condolences for the events in America.
When we returned to St Petersburg, Russia, our friends here also expressed their condolences. They treated these acts of terror as though they were personally against us. They are truly concerned for us, the welfare of our nation, and praying for American leadership.
THANK YOU
So many support our ministries here in Russia prayerfully and financially. I just dont think I could do it without you. Thank you for joining with us to serve God. May God give fruit that will be credited to your eternal account. Your friend, Kevin
