JANUARY 2002

TEACHING TEAM
In April my pastor, Coy Wylie, James Kirkland, and Richard Hamlin will come to St Petersburg, Russia. They will be teaching effective leadership principles from the Bible to the men I currently work with. Please be in prayer for them as they travel and teach Gods
Word in the former Soviet Union.

I am so grateful for their burden to teach Gods Word. Contact me at kplaster@peterlink.ru if you have a burden for teaching in Russia and would like to join us in our ministry.

LESSONS FROM THE FOREIGN MISSION FIELD
We arrived in St Petersburg, Russia, in April 1996. Shortly thereafter I went with a church to pass out New Testaments at a train Station in a village named Mga. Several people met there to do evangelism.
I was teamed up with a young African named Iffy that was skinny and stood about 66 tall. He and I were having almost no success getting people to receive NTs. I looked around and others were passing them out left and right.
I asked what they were telling the people and they advised saying, bezplatno. I went back to where Iffy stood with our boxes of Bibles, and as people passed by we would say bezplatno. The people would accept the NT, say thanks and leave. Sometimes they even asked for a second Bible.
Lesson: the phrase bezplatno means its free and is very important to the Russian people.

THANK YOU!
Gods blessings have been abundant. Those who have shared the burden will reap the rewards. We are grateful for everyone that has participated in one way or another. Kevin

1st ANNIVERSARY
We began the church in Kupchino Febraury 6, 2001, and celebrated our first anniversary Feb 10th. Special guest speakers and musicians joined us for this special occasion.
Misha shared a brief history of our victories and defeats. Oleg spoke telling of the struggles and accomplishments of Christians from past generations.
We are glad to be ambassadors for Christ knowing the victory is ours!

BIBLE CLASSES
At present I teach Sasha and Misha on a daily basis. On Tuesday evenings from 5:30 till 8:30 they teach the lessons to others who have a desire to know more about Gods Word.

EXCEPTIONAL GROWTH
Sasha, Misha and Oleg have grown so much over the past year. I am amazed with their desire to be all they can be for Christ.

CHURCHES
Both works, the church in city center, and in Kupchino, are doing well. We passed out 10,000 invitations in January.
For the last 2 months we have been organizing all our efforts for greater potential and effectiveness. We have also raised the level of expectation for members. They must be involved in some sort of church ministry and live a life that bears fruit for Christ. Still lots of adjustments to be made so keep us in your prayers.

MEET NIKOLAI
I first met Nikolai 18 months ago. He is about 45 yrs old and got married in January. The wedding took place in our facilities, and his pastor performed the ceremony.

THE PROBLEM
Nikolais church (Baptist) did not think he had the right to marry and refused to bless the marriage. No, hes never been divorced. His wife died some 15 years ago. He spent 12 years in a Russian prison for strangling her to death.
Nikolai said he and his first wife went to a wedding. She got drunk and started flirting with men there. He left. When she came home she insulted his manhood. He lost his temper and killed her. Simple as that.

SELF DEFENSE
I was asked why I went against the desires of his church. First, I didnt know they were against his marriage. Second, the scriptures dont say you cant remarry if you kill your first wife. Third, if the government says he has paid his due to society, he has. Fourth, if God has forgiven him, how can I judge otherwise?

RECOMMENDATION?
When I first met him he shared his testimony with me and also expressed his desire to marry. He then asked me to introduce him to some of the women in our church. I told him I would have to get back to him on that, but never did. He could remarry if he wanted to, but I wasnt gonna give him a recommendation.
